![]() ![]() Any settings I save individually for each machine in MAME configuration machine settings also don't save at all after I exit the MAME. Other issues I've encountered with MAME v0.220, any settings I saved individually in the MAME configuration settings menu simply don't save at all after I exit MAME. I haven't even gotten to the part where I need to program an X-Arcade controller or figure out how to get NFL Blitz or NBA Showtime working. I'm just tripping out how insanely complicated this has become. ![]() I hesitated to even try using MAME from the beginning because I'm not tech savvy, I'm not a coder, I'm simply an end user who loves old video games, but I can follow instructions. If anyone can help me figure out how to get MAME working again that would be amazing. ini" which doesn't work so now what do I do? Where does "mame.ini" go? What is the "Core Search path for inipath supposed to be? Default is: "$HOME/Library/Application Support/mame $HOME/.mame. I keep getting the same error basically telling me MAME still has "video" set to "none" so there's an issue with MAME recognizing the changes I made to mame.ini. I have now tried moving the "mame.ini" file to the MAME folder, the MAME->ini folder, to the MAME->ini->presets folder, and adjusting the Core Search Path accordingly, maybe 50 times now? Nothing. So I started messing with the "Core Search Path" section under "inipath" thinking maybe I need to direct this file to a different area or maybe it directs MAME to where the mame.ini file is. So after this I'm assuming MAME is not recognizing the newly saved video settings I changed in the "mame.ini" file. Warning: -video none doesn't make much sense without -seconds_to_run I have Terminal open when I launch MAME and get this error message I have no idea how MAME is remembering settings I changed one time and not allowing me to change them back. I deleted MAME entirely off my computer including the SDL version 2.0.12 framework file, re-downloaded all the parts, re installed everything all over again, and I still get an all black screen. I opened my newly created "mame.ini" file (which did not create where it was directed to for some strange reason), with text editor, changed "video none" to "video opengl" and also tried "video bgfx", both did not work. After hours of trying to find this file and researching where it is on my computer or maybe if it was a hidden file I find out I have no mame.ini file anywhere, so I found a Terminal command to create one. Simple right? So I read threads suggesting to edit the mame.ini file "video" from "none" to "opengl" or "bgfx". I can exit out of MAME just fine so I'm just assuming it's the video setting I need to change. I get a black screen whenever I launch MAME now every time. In the MAME configuration settings, I selected video input "none" which set off a chain of events that I have not been able to figure out or fix almost 48 hours later of non stop reading, trouble shooting and emailing people frantically. MAME would launch and work with some roms, but the 2 games I did all this for (NFL Blitz and NBA Showtime) run at maybe 10% speed and it was killing me, so I was messing with the MAME configuration settings menu "video input" to see if it made any difference with game play of NFL Blitz, but it barely did anything. I downloaded SDL Version 2.0.12 and installed the framework file correctly, then downloaded SDLMAME version 0.220 and installed it as well. My MAME install no longer works one day later and I have no clue where to even begin at this point, I feel like I've tried almost everything. It took me days of research, reading threads in r/MAME, watching hours of YouTube videos, reading the bannister forums, googling, honestly it's insane how hard this was to figure out and how many problems I had every step of the way, but eventually I would like to post a super n00b's guide on this sub for anyone like me out there simply trying to install MAME on OS X in basic terms. I may be in way over my head trying to get MAME to work on a mac in OS X. I believe there is a bug in MAME or SDLMAME right now that will not save settings in the configuration menu so I will be using this Terminal command to launch mame64 otherwise I get black screen. " (don't forget space and period at the end) to instruct mame64 to launch reading mame.ini file. Created mame.ini file to switch video to "opengl" or "bgfx" and MAME not reading new mame.ini file.įIXED using Terminal command: "./mame64 -inipath. Tl dr Black screen upon startup using SDLMAME v0.220 in mac OS X 10.12.6 after accidentally switching video to "none".
